Social. Action.
This has the legs to start an interesting phenomenon, where simply clicking the “Like” button confirms and publicizes your commitment to a cause to your social network. Will it actually work? Research on motivation has frequently pointed to public broadcast of one’s goals and accountability to commitment as being successful motivators of behavior. One reason why this often works is that the social network steps in to remind you of your commitment and to nudge you into action.
Over the past few days, I’ve certainly noticed a sort of domino effect of “liking” this idea throughout my own social network, but will it actually trigger the action itself?
Really interested in this recent pattern of digital social action, and frankly, I think we largely have the Obama campaign to thank for sparking this movement.
